DAKSHINAYANA दक्षिणायन
A Summer Solstice Breath and Music Celebration

STEPPING INTO SADHANA PADA.
Summer Solstice is on Tuesday, June 21st, 2022.

Summer Solstice is on Tuesday, June 21st, 2022.
It is the longest day of the year and marks the beginning of the Pitrayana or more commonly known Dakshinayana phase of the year.
This is a time where the Sun’s South-facing path/journey allows for a sacred shift in the geometry and energies of the Cosmos as the southern transit begins with the nights getting longer here in the Northern hemisphere.

The year 2022 is an especially significant year as this is not just a usual yearly shift this time but a move into a new Yuga (Cosmic Super Time Cycle) itself. The time ahead offers us the opportunity to make an evolutionary leap as energy accelerates and will propel life to a new cycle/reality/experience. These times/portals of Yuga shifts arrive once in thousands of years.
Note: These shifts and their timings are in approximation.

This is a time when we each have the awareness/window of opportunity to step out of the illusory cycle of Karma.
It is a time of new beginnings unlike ever before in and for this manifested form.

MYTHOLOGY and KARMIC CYCLES

Karma belongs only in and to the conditioned Body-Mind-World realm.
Only the personal identity experiences Karma. The true Self does not create/live the conditions of the familiar personal Body-Mind and therefore does not experience Karma which belongs to this Time-Space-World.
Without resistance that is the effort/force of the conditioned personal body-mind, Life that is pure vibrating energy naturally moves uninhibited in the direction of its innate flow. The experience of the Karma knot thus unravels itself effortlessly.
While we hear about Karma mostly with a negative connotation, Karma simply means “natural results of actions”.
As a doer, or personal identity, our positive actions result in positive karma and negative actions result in negative karma. Like attracts like.

ॐ रश्म्यनुसारी ॐ ॥ ४.२.१८॥
Oṃ raśmyanusārī oṃ. 4.2.18..
(The soul of the man of knowledge) proceeds by following the rays of the sun.
– Brahma/Vedanta Sutra

The ancient scriptures share that all Souls who have balanced their negative karma naturally move from this plane at the time of Uttarayana attaining Moksha (liberation). All who leave their body-mind at the time Dakshinayana are said to still be playing the game of this Time-Space Earth plane and its Karma.

In Mahabharatha, Bhishma Pita struck by innumerable arrows waited till time stepped into Uttarayana before giving up the body so he could be liberated forever. Bhishma also known as Pitamaha, The Great Father was a central character in the Mahabharata who witnessed/lived Mahabharata from the very beginning.
As the grandfather to both Kauravas and Pandavas, he lead the war by taking the side of the Kauravas who were perceived to be on the side of evil. His departing from the body-mind-world on Uttarayana is said to have liberated his soul from this cycle.
Many pray and hope to depart like Bhishma Pita too at the time of Uttarayana but fail to understand how he could have dissolved his karmic binds by being on the side of the Kauravas.

The Brahma Sutras reveal a deeper story that makes Dakshinayana a perfect time where it serves as a stepping stone to overcome Karmic bonds.
The Brahmasutras (ब्रह्म सूत्र) also known as the Vedanta Sutras are ancient scriptures from around 200 BCE and are considered to be one of three most important texts in Vedanta along with the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita.

The 4th chapter — Phala Adhyaya — Bearing fruits of Spiritual knowledge/true Self.
In Sutras 20–21 titled Dakshinayanadhikaranam, it is stated how the time of departure of a Soul is only an aftereffect. What determines a Soul’s liberation is more about the identity he/she has lived in rather than the exit time in which one has chosen to leave.
Bhishma Pitamaha, chose to wait and leave the body in Uttarayana because as the true Self this body-mind perfectly played its part in the grand Rasleela (Cosmic Play) of Life by living its dharma of being on the side of the Kauravas.
There was no negative Karma incurred and the true Self determined the time of departure.

When the personal mind merges with the vital life force/true Self one nulls the Karma cycle to attain moksha even if the body-mind leaves during Dakshinayana. Identity is primary. Timing is secondary.
No matter what the perceived outer circumstances and experiences may seem to be, living the true Self is first and foremost the surest and most direct way to be the already liberated Soul we are.

ॐ अतश्चायनेऽपि दक्षिणे ॐ ॥ ४।२।२०॥
Oṃ ataścāyane’pi dakṣiṇe oṃ. 4.2.20.
For the very same reason (The Soul gets the result of knowledge) even when departing during the sun’s southern course.

The time of Dakshinayana serves as an auspicious time when all body-minds can choose to align and live from and as their true Self.

KUNDALINI YOGA – THE ARCLINE YEAR

In Kundalini Yoga 2022 is a powerful transformative year of the Arcline.
The Arcline is considered the nucleus of the Aura and a bridge between the physical and heavenly worlds. (See Chakras below for more detail)

The mantra of the Arcline
ॐ ॐ ॐ
Om. Om. Om.
I AM. I AM. I AM.

The themes and role of the Arcline is all about Awareness, Intuition, Personal Integrity, Justice, and Destiny.
The Arcline determines our projective manifestational power.
The stronger the Arcline, the more effortlessly we embody, live, and radiate the unique Life desire we are.

The Gurmukhi mantra for the time ahead – ANGSANG WAHEGURU.
We praise and celebrate the Guru tattva which is the innate intelligence that we are.
Life/Wisdom is (with and vibrates as) Me.

SADHANA PADA - Path of Sacred Practice.

All is nature. All reflects nature.
The brighter light-filled days of Uttarayana (From Winter Solstice to Summer Solstice) are symbolic of everything holding more light/consciousness/awareness. Spring and Summer are months of new life.
Uttarayana, therefore, is called the Samadhi/Kaivalya Pada time. A time when the core invitation of life reveals/births itself in and as us.

As seasons change and light starts to diminish outside in nature, so does our awareness.
Dakshinayana (Summer Solstice onwards) now is a time of more unconsciousness. A time that serves well as a time to build a new living practice. Sadhana Pada – A time for deepening into the sacred intention and embodying the true Self.

CHAKRAS AND PRANAYAMA

It is on Summer Solstice Day thousands of years ago that Shiva/Consciousness as Dakshinamurthy (South facing symbol/deity) turned southward and shared the wisdom of the Sadhana Pada Yoga with the Saptarishis (The Seven Yogsrishis who brought us the ancient wisdom of Yoga)
Yogic knowledge helps all body-minds shed their personal conditioned imprints so the Soul can begin its new beginning for, in and as Life.

Om Namo Bhagavathe Dakshinamurthaye
Mahyam Medhaam Pragnaam Prayaccha Swaha

This Seed/Moola Dakshinamurthy Mantra is an intense invocation of Lord Dakshinamurthy.
Chanting this mantra builds focus, awareness, and an inner discipline that is a natural byproduct of jnana/true Self and bhakti/devotion.

The Saptarishis heard/received all knowledge as Shruti. Divine embodied gnoing/listening.
The upper 3 chakras of Vishuddhi, Ajna, and Sahasrar connect us to our heavenly abode – our vibrational self and as new intention pours into our body-mind-heart as pure desire.
These Chakras are most activated and sensitive during the Uttarayana Samadhi/Kaivalya Pada time – Winter Solstice onwards.

The lower 3 chakras of Mooladhara, Swadishthana, and Manipura are connected to our Earthly self/body-minds.
They ground energy to the perceived physical manifested self/world.
This time of Sadhana Pada is when these chakras come more into play.
When grounded and embodied in and as this new intention the body-mind and its living serves as a holy ground for the seed to sprout into manifestation.
Life energy moves through the body along the spine in both directions and when balanced it meets in the Anahata/Heart chakra ((The middle point between the upper and lower chakras) to radiate its unique expression as manifested love.
Anahata means unstruck. Pure effortless flow and manifestation.

Only Love IS.
Only Love flows/serves.

Practices such as Pranayama are extremely beneficial during Dakshinayana which help with dissolving old energetic imprints and keeping body-minds as aware as possible.
The morning Pranayama sessions here help with these energetic shifts.
