PRANA
" Pra" is Life's creative, vital energy. "Na" is us in these body-minds. Prana means life energy that literally manifests our body-minds.
It is the reason why working with practices that allow the free flow of Prana are so effective when it comes to creating any meaningful or long-lasting change in our bodies and state of being. Pranayama is a practice that allows Prana to move and create without inhibition, so we naturally live as and from our most aligned and centered state of being. Pranayama is all about effortlessly living the "Yamas" - ways of being and doing that serve the highest good of the self and all.
At the core, Yoga helps us recognize that we in our body-minds are simply a play of elements beyond our personal mental identity and its conditions.
The way the prana moves and lives in and as our body-minds determines the nature of the cells, their vibratory frequency/consciousness, and the resulting functioning and experience of Life that is lived. The higher the pranic energy in the body, the more aware, balanced, and conscious Life we lead.
The practice of Pranayama, apart from the basic health guidelines, needs no prerequisite knowledge whatsoever. In fact, in my personal experience, the less the mental knowledge and expectations, the better and more effective the practice can feel and be!
Prana needs no guiding, monitoring, or controlling. Prana is Life's innate intelligence, and all that is required is that we arrive entirely at its grace in complete surrender.
We cannot access Prana directly, and therefore, breath that is the vehicle through which Prana moves is what we work with to connect.
BREATH-MIND-WORLD
Ramana Maharishi, who is also known as Bhagavan was a revered Indian sage, and Jnani who shared his path of Self enquiry and devotion as a means to realize the true nature of what we are and reality. He shares with us how the breath is the gross form of mind and that there is a direct connection between the Breath, Mind, and the World we perceive and experience. The breath which is the vehicle of Prana and the Mind/thought both arise from the same space. The movement of breath reflects the movement of the mind and vice versa. Stop your breath for a bit and notice how it stops your mind as well.
The nature of our breath at any given moment indicates the state of our Mind. The movement and unique rhythms and patterns of the breath are intricately linked to the Mind's related states. As our breath changes, so does our state of being, the reflection of which shows up in how we live, perceive, and relate with our World. For most of us who have and live through our active, creative, and imaginative minds - whether it used to worry or be engaged creatively in our worlds - Pranayama serves to be an excellent practice to keep us anchored and balanced. Through Pranayama, the bioenergy in the cells increases allowing the body to shift back into its most aligned breath pattern, which settles the moving, distracted or agitated Mind. It is the very reason why Pranayama is a powerfully effective practice when it comes to preparing for Meditation. In Pranayama, we step aside so Prana can settle the mind and body into an optimum state, allowing us to easefully and deeply experience the Meditation that is us.
Pranayama is an aid to temporarily quieten the mind.
ஆகையால் மன மடங்கும்போது பிராணனும், பிராண னடங்கும்போது மனமு மடங்கும்
āhaiyāl maṉam aḍaṅgum-pōdu pirāṇaṉ-um, pirāṇaṉ aḍaṅgum-pōdu maṉamum aḍaṅgum.
When the mind subsides the prāṇa also stills, and when the prāṇa stills the mind also quietens.

THE gift of pranayama - a blog
I couldn’t name it. It felt indescribable. What had been missing before. And what was now clearly present. I viscerally felt it in each cell of my body.
Ease of being? Wholeness. And more.
Try as I might, I had no words for it.
In many ways, I still don’t.
